Work through Cull → Edit → Tone

Use this sequence to turn a shoot into a deliberate, captioned delivery. You need local files or downloaded originals, an assignment purpose, and the recipient's requirements.

Follow one assignment

1. Identify the Assignment: the story, event, class exercise, or client need. A Shoot is a photographic session for it. A Take is a manageable group of files, such as a card or coverage segment. Each photograph is a File.
2. Copy card images using Ingest or open an existing folder. Verify that the intended files are present.
3. Cull: inspect the photographs, apply ratings or IBP picks, and narrow the candidates. Use comparison or bursts where they help. A cover or rating is an aid to your decision, not a decision made by the app.
4. Edit: make the final human picture selection. Create a named Selection Set and put it into story order. Remove weaker duplicates from the set without deleting originals.
5. Write and verify captions and metadata. Shared event facts can come from a template; the action and identities still need per-image review.
6. Tone: use the permitted crop and image adjustments for your assignment. Choose the editing profile that matches your workflow before adding creative effects.
7. Export copies to the required size, format, naming, and metadata settings. Open the output files and check them before delivery.
8. Deliver through the configured route. Confirm receipt at the destination. Save or package the work for later handoff.

Options and ownership

A UI button labeled Edit may open image adjustments; the editorial meaning of Edit remains final selection. IBP can handle a deadline workflow by itself or hand files to a configured external editor. A Selection Set holds references and order; exported images are new files. Local preview changes, saved metadata, rendered output, and remote delivery have separate results.

Check the result

You should be able to identify the original take, the named final set, and the delivered output folder. Compare their counts: fewer finals than originals is normal. Do not mark delivery complete because an export dialog closed; check the actual result and destination.

Common problems

If a set is empty, confirm source locations and filters. If the wrong images received a batch action, stop and inspect its undo support before making more changes. Rename, Trash, uploads, and publication are not covered by universal undo. Workflow packages and support explain handoff and recovery boundaries.
