Package originals or hand work to an external editor
Use a Workflow Package to copy a deliverable's source material and supporting files into a handoff folder. Use the external-editor action when another application should do further pixel editing. Have the selected local files and enough destination space ready.
Create a package
- Open the intended Selection Set or select the deliverable's images.
- Review Settings โ Workflow Presets for the package destination, folder choices, checks, and contents. A job override takes precedence over a photographer override, which takes precedence over the global default.
- Choose Workflow Package from the available export/workflow action.
- Include the requested originals, edited/delivery files, and existing sidecars. Confirm the destination before starting.
- Create the package and inspect the result. Open its folders and
manifest.json; confirm that the intended source and delivery files are present. - Open representative files in the receiving workflow before treating the package as complete.
Each package gets its own destination folder, including packages created at the same time. The file list and SHA-256 checksums are saved in Manifest/manifest.json when the manifest option is enabled.
Packages preserve RAW/DNG originals without silently converting them. They do not write directly into a Lightroom catalog. Application-specific Lightroom editing/archive workflows and automatic external-editor refresh should not be assumed from the existence of a generic package.
Open an external editor
Configure the intended application under App Defaults, then use the available open-in-external-editor action for selected local files. The Photoshop/Camera Raw JPEG handoff supports working-copy behavior, initially using Edited/, and an explicit original option in workflow preferences. Choose working copies when you need to preserve an untouched source. Save in the external application, return to IBP, and rescan/inspect the changed files; do not assume automatic refresh has completed.
Convert RAW to DNG separately
Configure your installed Adobe DNG Converter in Settings โ DNG Tools. Use the existing RAW-to-DNG action and check its reported result. Conversion is separate from packaging. If the converter is missing or fails, retain the RAW originals and continue ordinary browsing or delivery; a package is not a substitute conversion result.
Verify and recover
Check paths, file counts, sidecars, rendered finals, and the manifest before transfer. Missing originals require reconnecting/relinking the source, not replacing them with thumbnails. A copied package is not evidence of cloud delivery. If the external application cannot open the file, verify format support and the configured executable. See Export, Cloud Storage, and Support.
