Create and sequence a Selection Set

A Selection Set gathers references to photographs for a deliverable without moving originals. Use separate sets for a final edit, alternates, a class discussion, or a slideshow. Have the intended images loaded and their source drives available.

Create the set

1. Select the photographs in the grid. Check the selected count before proceeding.
2. Open Sets in Control Nav or the Selection Sets control. Create a set from the selected images and give it a meaningful assignment or delivery name.
3. Reopen the set in the sidebar and confirm its membership. Add additional selected images through the set controls or remove references that do not belong.
4. Use Sets Studio to review active and archived sets. Mark a long-term story or semester portfolio as ongoing when it should remain available across assignment folders.
5. Open Sequence for the set and arrange the final order. Confirm the visible order before export; a manually sequenced set takes precedence over ordinary filename sorting.
6. Choose the set's export, review, Picture Editor, or Slideshow Studio action for the next task.

Export the order

Use Export Sequenced Set (seq001_) when files must sort in the intended order at the destination. The export creates numbered copies; it does not rename source originals. Batch Export also offers sequence prefix naming where appropriate. Check start number and digit choices if you are joining an existing delivery.

For a review handoff, export a Review Data Backup CSV or a Review PDF. CSV retains structured review information and can be matched to local files later. A PDF provides readable images/comments; it is not an editable image recipe. See review backups.

What persists

The set retains references, membership, and supported sequence data. It is not an archive of all the original image bytes. Moving originals outside IBP can break references; reconnect the drive or use the available relinking flow. Deleting a set is different from deleting its photographs, but read the action's confirmation before proceeding.

Verify and troubleshoot

Reopen the set, inspect the count and order, then inspect the exported folder sorted by name. If files are missing, verify source paths and drive availability. If CSV import finds duplicate filenames, resolve ambiguous matches rather than assuming the first match is correct. To make an actual portable package of files and sidecars, use Workflow Packages.
